Interaction Lab
InteractionLab is a multidisciplinary research group within Sabanci University - Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Program; currently running research projects on image tracking, physical interfaces, wearable and mobile interaction systems, interior visual design, sonification/visualization in performing arts. Our research studio has wide range of research equipment for developing prototypes including microcontrollers, soldering tools, dremels and other electronic components.
Metal Works Studio
The Metal and Wood Studios provide support for Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design students in the development of their studio practice. The facilities: 200 square meters located on the ground floor of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences building, serves as support for 3rd year, 4th year and graduate level students. A fulltime technical advisor and safety officer assisted by graduate teaching assistants, provide support for students and faculty Monday through Friday. Limited evening hours are available, supervised by a Teaching Assistant. Greater access is available to qualified graduate students.
Specific to Metal Studio:
This is a general all purpose metal fabrication teaching facility. The equipment is well maintained and upgraded on a yearly bases.
Welders: Gas- oxygen & acetylene. Electric- MIG, TIG, Shielded Arc.
Welding Cutters: Gas- oxygen & acetylene: Electric- Plasma Cutter.
Welding Safety Gear: Auto-darkening welding helmets, protective clothing.
Hand held or portable tools: A well maintained general assortment and number of grinders, sanders, cutting tools, heat guns, cordless drills, chop saw and wrench sets.
Clamps & vices: Large all-purpose assortment .
Work surfaces: Steel welding and fabrication tables.
Clean Air Filtration systems: Industrial grade portable charcoal filtration system.
Large floor mounted equipment: Benders- 2m power roller, pipe bender, angle bender. Sanders- belt and disc sanders. industrial Chop saw, drill press
Photography Studio & VFX / Motion Capture Studio
VACD program's photography studio is a medium size studio that provides the necessary base equipment for live model and/or product shooting, fictional photography. The studio can be used by both photography and video students. It has an assigned keeper and the key needed for access can be obtained from this person. Registered photo/video course students can contact the keeper directly and have access without prior permission by course instructor. Students who do not take photo/video courses yet want to have access first need to contact Murat Germen by e-mail for permission. If permission granted they can contact the keeper for the key. Damage caused by personal mistakes like dropping/breaking pieces will be covered by the student, time-dependent expenses due wear-out are covered by the school.
*Studio for indoor video shooting, animation, compositing, special and visual effects need. The video production studio contain professional chromakey green screen as well as adjustable blue, black and white wallpaper for shooting need. Professional and portable video light sets for multiple usage in video shooting.
Sound Design Studio
VAVCD Sound Studios are located at the ground level in Faculty of Arts and Sciences Building. There are three separate rooms dedicated for recording and post-production purposes.

Wood Works Studio

Specific to Wood Studio
This is a general all-purpose wood facility also used at this time as a studio for mold making and polyester work.
Large floor mounted equipment: Industrial table saw, industrial plainer, industrial band saw, band saw, horizontal band saw. Sanders - belt and disc sanders. Industrial chop saw and drill press.
Hand held or portable tools: A well maintained general assortment of sanders, cutting tools, heat guns, cordless drills, chop saw, glue guns, and wrench and driver sets.
Clean Air Filtration systems: Industrial grade portable charcoal filtration system as well as a built in dust collection system for industrial equipment.
Safety Gear: Protective eye wear and face shields, ear protection, dust masks and disposable hand protective clothing.
Clamps & vices: Large all-purpose assortment .
Work surfaces: Work tables space is limited, students must be able to move in-progress to their studios.
Other: Stocked materials store room for student use.
